{"id":3724,"date":"2024-05-22T12:49:40","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T09:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sahfy.net\/news\/?p=3724"},"modified":"2024-05-22T12:49:40","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T09:49:40","slug":"ebrd-and-nbe-support-regional-small-businesses-in-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sahfy.net\/news\/?p=3724&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"EBRD and NBE support regional small businesses in Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><b>EBRD loan to support small businesses\u00a0as part of a larger financing programme<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>First A\/B loan to a financial institution in Egypt will help\u00a0mobilise private sector funding<\/b><b><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Credit line to focus on under-served regions, enterprises owned or led by women and young people<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending an initial US$ 119.5 million (\u20ac109 million) A\/B loan to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbe.com.eg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.nbe.com.eg\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1716457051676000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1RswSExUhWPCDSF1c9aVI6\">National Bank of Egypt<\/a>\u00a0(NBE), for on-lending to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1716457051676000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0Uqrh0DSIdbcq5uK_dRa37\">Egypt<\/a>. This first portion, which includes a B loan mobilised from the Dutch-based and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1716457051676000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2gCyUv5jUq54xMu9mkqqOL\">SDG<\/a>-focused asset manager\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilxfund.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ilxfund.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1716457051676000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0vOqpal0m7ZzS38j2Hwb2_\">ILX Fund<\/a>, falls under a potentially larger financing programme that could be carried out in several stages. This is the first loan with an A\/B structure that has been made to a bank in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>The EBRD\u2019s financing under this loan structure should help to mobilise the private-sector funding necessary for economic development, while diversifying NBE\u2019s funding base and supporting its financial inclusion agenda.<a name=\"m_-9108760712739253345_x__GoBack\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This credit line will target\u00a0<a name=\"m_-9108760712739253345_x__Hlk156400425\"><\/a>businesses with a regional focus that are owned or led by women or young people,\u00a0which remain underserved in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>NBE is the largest commercial bank in Egypt. Its cooperation with the EBRD, which began in 2013, has included trade finance lines, credit lines that support the financial inclusion of under-served segments of the economy, and fostering renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt is a founding member of the EBRD.
