The fifth edition of the Africa Financial Summit (AFIS) opens today in Casablanca under the theme: \u201c<\/span>Unlocking Africa’s Financial Power: Time to channel domestic capital for the future<\/i><\/b>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by Jeune Afrique Media Group, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and the Kingdom of Morocco, AFIS 2025 brings together for two days more than 1,200 financial leaders, public decision-makers, and regulators from across the continent and around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its inception in 2021, AFIS has established itself as the leading public-private dialogue platform dedicated to building a world-class African financial industry. This new edition marks a key step in the collective reflection on mobilizing the continent\u2019s capital. In a global environment characterized by high interest rates, persistent geopolitical tensions, and greater selectivity of international capital, African stakeholders agree on one priority: to build financial ecosystems capable of mobilizing and channeling African savings toward the continent\u2019s productive investments.<\/span><\/p>\n

As many major transformation projects in energy, infrastructure, and digital sectors require massive investment, Africa must be able to rely more heavily on its own financing levers. The paradox of a resource-rich yet under-financed continent is at the heart of this year\u2019s AFIS discussions. To address it, participants will explore suitable regulatory frameworks, innovative financial instruments, and public-private partnerships capable of turning African economies into regional investment powerhouses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amir Ben Yahmed<\/b>, President of the Africa Financial Summit, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : <\/span>\u201cAfrica is not short of capital: it lies in our banks, our markets, our insurance funds, and even in our phones. What it still lacks is ambitious regulation and solid bridges to channel this capital towards development. That is the very purpose of AFIS: bringing together Africa\u2019s financial actors to jointly build an architecture capable of financing our own ambitions.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Makhtar Diop<\/b>, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), said: <\/span>\u201cMobilizing all our resources \u2013 African savings, regional markets, global capital \u2013 is the key to sustainable growth. The theme of AFIS 2025 \u2013 Unlocking Africa\u2019s financial power: time to mobilize domestic capital at scale \u2013 shows how necessary this transformation is. Success depends on us all.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

H.E. Mrs. Nadia Fettah<\/b>, Minister of Economy and Finance, stated: <\/span>\u201cFinancial sovereignty is not a slogan; it is an imperative, a collective duty, a handover between African generations. These words commit us (…) Africa does not seek to isolate itself from the world. It wishes neither to build walls nor cut itself off from exchanges, but to reclaim control over its economic destiny. It wants to choose its partnerships, influence the rules of the global game, and shape its priorities according to its own needs \u2013 no longer according to cycles or constraints dictated from elsewhere.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Over two days, more than thirty conferences, workshops, and roundtables will give participants the opportunity to actively shape the transformation of Africa\u2019s financial landscape. AFIS 2025 will bring together leaders of major banking and insurance institutions, fintechs, regional stock exchanges, and regulatory authorities to build the foundations of a resilient, integrated, and forward-looking African finance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the personalities present in Casablanca are leaders of the largest development finance institutions, including <\/span>Makhtar Diop<\/b> (IFC), <\/span>Serge Eku\u00e9<\/b> (BOAD), <\/span>Dr. George Agyekum Donkor<\/b> (ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development), <\/span>Jules Ngankam <\/b>(African Guarantee Fund), and <\/span>Ethiopis Tafara<\/b> (IFC). Representatives of the continent\u2019s leading banks, insurance companies, capital markets, fintechs, and pension funds are also in attendance: <\/span>Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede<\/b> (Access Holdings & Coronation Group), <\/span>Mohamed El Kettani<\/b> (Attijariwafa Bank), <\/span>Jeremy Awori<\/b> (Ecobank), <\/span>Mohamed Bah<\/b> (SUNU Group), <\/span>Idrissa Nassa<\/b> (Coris Bank International), <\/span>Thierry Hebraud<\/b> (MCB), <\/span>Amine Bouabid<\/b> (Bank of Africa), <\/span>Lu\u00eds Filipe Rodrigues L\u00e9lis<\/b> (Banco Angolano de Investimentos), <\/span>Abdeslam Alaoui Smaili<\/b> (HPS), <\/span>Mohamed Hassan Bensalah<\/b> (Holmarcom), <\/span>Solomon Quaynor<\/b> (AfDB), <\/span>Dr. Tilahun Esmael Kassahun<\/b> (Ethiopian Securities Exchange), <\/span>Abdou Diop<\/b> (Forvis Mazars), <\/span>Edoh Kossi<\/b> Amenounv\u00e9<\/b> (BRVM), <\/span>Isabel Esp\u00edrito Santo<\/b> (Banco Millennium Atl\u00e2ntico), <\/span>Ouafae Mriouah<\/b> (Atlantic Re), <\/span>Khalid Safir<\/b> (CDG Maroc), <\/span>Gilles Tchamba<\/b> (l\u2019Archer), <\/span>Karim Ezzeddine<\/b> (SkyKapital), <\/span>Haytham El Maayergi<\/b> (Afreximbank), <\/span>Corneille Karekezi<\/b> (Africa Re), and <\/span>Cheryl Buss<\/b> (ABSA International).<\/span><\/p>\n

On the public-sector side, 10 central bank governors and deputy governors and 6 ministers and representatives are expected, including <\/span>Nadia Fettah <\/b>(Minister of Economy and Finance, Morocco), <\/span>Abdellatif Jouahri<\/b> (Bank Al-Maghrib), <\/span>Jean-Claude Kassi Brou<\/b> (BCEAO), <\/span>Manuel Antonio Tiago Dias<\/b> (Banco Nacional de Angola), and <\/span>Andr\u00e9 Wameso<\/b> Nkualoloki<\/b> (Central Bank of the Congo). Around fifteen heads of capital-market and insurance regulatory authorities will also take part in the 45 sessions, including <\/span>Tarik Senhaji<\/b> (AMMC) and <\/span>Hana Tehelku<\/b> (Ethiopian Capital Market Authority).<\/span><\/p>\n

For the second consecutive year, Casablanca is hosting AFIS. This choice underscores Morocco\u2019s central role in developing Africa\u2019s financial potential.
